MEET OUR DOCTORS
Peter N. Reusswig, MD, has served as the Medical director of Vibra Hospital since 1998 and he is the Secretary of the Colorado Pain Society. As a graduate of Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, he completed his medical training at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, internship in Internal Medicine at Cornell’s New York Hospital, and his Anesthesiology and Pain Management training at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He then served on active duty as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Long Beach Naval Hospital.
Dr. Reusswig moved to the Denver Area in 1994, where he helped to develop the Pain Center at St. Anthony North Hospital. The Pain Center moved, in 1998, to what is now Vibra Hospital, where the pain center still exists today.
Dr. Reusswig is level II Accredited with the Colorado Division of Workman’s Compensation. He serves or has served as a physician advisor to The Colorado Division of Workers Compensation, Pinnacol Assurance, Anthem Blue Cross, and frequently lectures fellow physicians on topics such as the use of opioids in the treatment of pain, implantable devices and on the latest interventional techniques that are being studied and used in the treatment of pain. He is board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Colorado Society of Anesthesiologists, the America Academy of Pain Medicine and the Colorado Pain Society.

Dr. Patel is a native of Southern California and completed his training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA where he acted as Chief Resident. This was followed by a completion of an Interventional Pain Fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL through the Department of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Patel brings a diverse array of clinical training and experience to our practice. In addition to offering traditional PM&R services, such as electromyography, nerve conduction studies, ultra-sound guided peripheral joint and nerve injections, and sports medicine therapies, he will be expanding services to include regenerative medicine techniques with platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy for a myriad of conditions including osteoarthritis and tendinopathy.
Dr. Patel is also trained in traditional interventional pain techniques, including all cervical, thoracic, and lumbar injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulator trial and permanent placements, as well in intrathecal placement of pain and baclofen pumps.
His current interests revolve around regenerative medicine techniques to treat chronic pain conditions and injuries that have not responded to traditional, conservative care.

MEET OUR PHYSICIANS
Joseph Shankand, MMS, PA-C is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is currently licensed by the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners. He has a Master’s in Medical Science from St Francis University, Loretto, Pennsylvania and graduated from Red Rocks Physician Assistant Program. Joseph has been practicing medicine as a Physician Assistant since 2009 and prior to joining Colorado Pain Management and Anesthesia Consultants he worked in Emergency and Urgent Care medicine. Prior to becoming a Physician Assistant Joseph has many years of experience working as a Paramedic.

Rachel joined Colorado Pain Management in 2016. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. Rachel was on the Dean’s List and the President’s List at the University of Louisiana. Rachel is licensed in both Colorado and Wyoming. Rachel has experience with Botox injections, joint injections, medication management, and behavioral health for adults and adolescents.
As a new bride, Rachel spends her free time with her husband and their 2 love-able dogs. They enjoy running, hiking, snowboarding, soccer, swimming and cooking. Rachel also enjoys working with the community youth.
Brittany is certified by the National Commission of Physician Assistants. She obtained her Masters degree in Medical Sciences from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL after graduating from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biology and Psychology minor. While in PA school she completed elective rotations in both orthopedics and pain management.
Her professional career has involved several years of pain management in the realms of physical medicine, rehabilitation, rheumatology and treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions in the outpatient setting. Brittany specializes in therapeutic injections utilizing ultrasound guidance when necessary.
Brittany understands the importance of individualized treatment plans and enjoys helping patients develop this specialized care. She finds pain management very rewarding because she is able to journey with her patients to see them regain function and do the activities they love without so many restrictions that pain often inflicts.
Brittany’s free time is spent with her husband and two daughters enjoying the outdoors. Weekends are typically spent exploring new regions of Colorado and enjoying its beauty while camping and hiking. She appreciates being “off the grid” until NFL season and then will be found glued to her TV on game days while helping her daughters perfect their touchdown dances.
